Overview

The Economics for Foreign Service Officials program is designed for Foreign Service Officials worldwide who require a practical understanding of how economic principles intersect with foreign policy, diplomacy, international relations, and global development.

In today’s increasingly interconnected global environment, diplomats and foreign service officials are expected to engage not only on political and strategic matters, but also on issues relating to trade, investment, economic cooperation, sustainability, development financing, and geopolitical risk. Economic developments in one region can rapidly influence international relations, investment flows, fiscal priorities, supply chains, and national policy decisions elsewhere.

A strong grasp of economics therefore equips participants with the ability to better interpret global developments, engage more meaningfully in economic and policy discussions, and support informed decision-making within their respective institutions and missions.

This program is intended to provide participants with practical exposure to key economic concepts and contemporary international economic issues relevant to diplomatic and government engagement. Through lectures, discussions, and applied case examples, participants will gain broader perspectives on the economic dimensions shaping international affairs today.
